New Year's Resolution Catch Up

We have all set New Year's resolutions, but statistically most of us will be giving up soon... How are you getting on with yours?

Statistics show that next week a lot of us are bound to give up on our New Year's resolutions in a battle of willpower, time management and general love of cigarettes and alcohol.

Here's how things usually end up:

67% of people make 3 or more resolutions each New Year.

The top resolutions involve promises to exercise more (37%), increasing the time devoted to study or work (23%), losing weight, stopping smoking or drinking (alcohol / coffee), and to eat healthier.

People make more resolutions to start a new habit (84%) , than to break an old one (16%).

65% of people made their resolutions between the 28th of December and New Year's Day. The rest usually take up until the end of January to decide!

Of those who successfully achieved their top resolution, 40% of them did so on the first attempt. The rest made multiple tries, with 17% finally succeeding after more than six attempts.

So what will your resolutions be for 2013, and do you think you can achieve them?

I have been noting down the resolutions of the Orchard team, and will be carefully watching their attempts at sticking to them, especially Rob. He made a Christmas resolution to put on a stone over the festive week (committing to eating over 4000 calories a day) and he succeeded! Last week he vowed to lose every last pound. Many of them seem to revolve around health and fitness, with a few of us promising to weigh ourselves each week; wish us luck and let me know how you're getting on!
