Orchard Blog - Rick's App of the Week 18/02/11


Orchard creative consultant Rick's weekly iPhone / iPad app of choice. I'm a bit shy of calling this blog "app of the week" because I'm painfully aware it's now 3 months since I wrote about one. Anyway, sorry about that, but this week's app is brilliant and one of my personal favorites.



What Postcards does is let you take a photo (either take one within the app or use an existing one from your camera roll) and send it in postcard form to anywhere in the world. You get to write your own personal message, fill in the recipient's address and pay for it via your paypal account (99p for UK and £1.49 for the rest of the world) and that's it; they print and post it the same day and couple of days later it will be read by your nosey postman posted through your letterbox.

So far I've only used it when under the influence of alcohol to send the postcard below to the lovely Fran Holden:





But when you think about using it for holidays, it's actually a really nice idea; no more queuing for stamps in a foreign country and asking for an "international testicles" when you meant to ask for "international stamps" in your crap Spanish. Also; as the postcard is posted from the UK, it's very likely to get back before you (unless you're holidaying in Bognor). The app is free, easy to use and worth it just to show your loved ones (and their postman) what a spiffing time you're having away from them.
