Qwerty Quiz 2: The Return Of The Pub Quiz With A Digital Twist

The 2nd Qwerty Quiz, the Manchester pub quiz for designers, digital marketeers and developers, took place last week, and Team Orchard were there to pit their wits against the finest brains in the industry.

The competition was tough, and many of the questions being fired by our host with the most, Mr Al Mackin, would have had a nod of approval from Jeremy Paxman, and left most of his University Challenge teams perplexed.

        Mr Al Mackin

The banter was in full flow throughout, and no doubt Robert Robinson and Bob Holness were looking down from the heavens and smiling with the knowledge the quiz master baton was in safe hands.

The quiz has the usual set up – a picture round of famous clever men, a digital media round, SEO round… you get the picture it's digital based. Now I know what you’re thinking you need to be a digital geek to stand a chance at knowing any of the answers… WRONG.

The carefully chosen general knowledge round, threw in an ASOS and SATC question (Sex and the City for all you none fans). Although these weren’t the most intelligent of questions, who cares after a large glass of wine - I finally know an answer that the boys don’t! It was now that the hopeful cloud of alcohol was pushing me forward. These chances were quickly dashed by a few tricky SEO questions.

It was a tight run finish, and there was a tie between 2 teams for 1st place which meant the overall winner came down to a time break question. Dave Ashworth stepped in to the hotseat to represent the Return On Digital team, and managed to hold his nerve to claim the trophy and prize stash of office essentials.

Team Orchard pooled our collective knowledge (and a bit of our 'ringer' Banc Media's Colin McDermott's) and finished just outside the medal places in a respectable 4th place. We did manage to do pretty well in the picture round which required us to identify famous digital foreheads, although none it turned out was actually our own Andy Chesters!

Anyway it’s the taking part that counts, plus I don’t think I could handle another PacMan stress ball being thrown full force at my head (one of the many amazing prizes won by Return On Digital) and most importantly over £200 was raised for the event's charity, Forever Manchester.

Hope to see you at an event soon - @Orchard_Joanne & @MattOrchard
