Superbrands' success fuelled by sex, religion and gossip

How affected are you by the Superbrands?

Did porn kill Betamax? Is Apple a new religion? Do we look upon McDonalds as a family member?

After watching this 3 part series hosted by Alex Riley (BBC3) on the impact of global superbrands, it’s interesting how strongly you initially align yourself with his beliefs of complete immunity to advertising and allure of these mega-brands. However, self awareness kicks in as you watch the program; carefully avoiding spilling your Starbucks Latte on your Levi's as you reach to grab a slice of Dominos pizza, whilst tweeting about it on your iPhone. You begin to realise that maybe, just maybe, you're more susceptible than you think.

But can Alex, the last bastion of ‘no-frills’ ‘no-names’ existence really have avoided the temptation?

Although the programs contain a comedic value, they offer a genuinely great insight into the mentality driving these global mega-brands and the methods they use to gain entry into our subconscious, giving them access to our emotions, and more importantly, our wallets.

Definitely worth watching:

I now know I am a sucker for  brands, but are you, or do you still think you're immune for any advertising hype?
