The App School is a series of free, expert-led workshops that will give you the creative and business skills to turn your app ideas into reality. First of its kind iPhone application course for budding creatives launches in Manchester THE WHITE ROOM is launching a unique course to help budding creatives make a start in the media sector through designing original iPhone applications. The free course, which launches March, will teach 18-24 year olds based in Manchester how to create cutting-edge mobile phone applications. The initiative, backed by Manchester Council, The Cornerhouse and Manchester Metropolitan University will also teach a range of business skills. With over $3bn worth of mobile phone apps downloaded in the last 2 years there is a real chance of turning ideas generated during the course into real business propositions. Inspiration for The App School came from a bin man called Rob Shoesmith. His idea for an app called ‘Problem Halved’ has now sold over 3.7m copies - at a dollar a time! The course is open to recent graduates, the unemployed, part-time as well full-time workers who can attend for a day a week. Applicants need to be resident within Manchester Council boundaries. Training bursary will also be available. No technical ability is required at all. Phil Birchenall, Project Director at The White Room says: “What we need is plenty of enthusiasm and ideas, that’s all. We are looking for people that really want to start a career in the creative sector – we believe we will be nurturing some of the stars of the future.” The App School www.appschool.co.uk Phil Birchenall: 0161 446 2991 The App School can also be found on Facebook.
