Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Business Clinic in partnership with MoneyCorp on 28th July 2016 to provide local businesses with information about the current foreign exchange environment and how they ...
Exchange rates are affected by a number of things including current affairs, a country’s economic performance, politics and data releases. Since the referendum, the uncertainty surrounding the UK economy has been unsettling leaving many UK exporters and importers in a tough position. The pound has decreased 11% against the Euro and 13% against the dollar since the Brexit vote. While this is making our exports more attractive, our imports are becoming significantly more expensive. With uncertainty being the most certain thing at the moment, Greater Manchester businesses need to protect themselves so that they aren’t seriously affected by the volatility of exchange rates.
Over the next few months there are a number of things that could further affect the rate of the pound, these include:
- Further referendum calls from other EU nations
- UK Prime Minister announcement
- US elections in November
- Bank of England interest rate cuts
- UK quantitative easing programme
- Release of consumer confidence figures
Please note that exporters and importers will take priority over non-exporting/importing companies. Registration will be verified in order to ensure a non-sales environment. We will confirm your registration over email.
If you are unable to make your booked meeting, please cancel at least two working days before the event. Your cancellation must be in writing and sent to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating the event and the number of places you are cancelling. Failure to cancel via email will result in an administrative fee being invoiced to you as follows:
Members - £10+VAT per delegate Non-Members - £15 +VAT per delegate
For more information please email email@example.com or call Rebecca Drakeford on 0161 393 4369.
This event consists of a 30-minute one-to-one session with a currency expert from MoneyCorp providing free, no obligation advice to support Chamber members and ensure they remain commercially successful in these uncertain times.
WHO IS THIS SUITABLE FOR?
Exporters and importers looking for support and advice on exchange rates and currency.

This time Kev Murray & David Draper from Valtech will demonstrate the Lean UX technique of "Assumption Mapping" with a workshop session that will have you taking a new product idea and exploring it from the perspective of identifying and prioritising assumptions.
Lean UX introduced a technique called Assumption Mapping as an approach to identifying areas of uncertainty and hence drive prototyping. We’ve found that this method can be tailored to provide a framework that brings together stakeholders from all disciplines.
In development of a new product or service, this approach can reduce costly mistakes by enabling prioritisation of a range of activities from data analysis and technical exploration through to user research and prototyping.
In this workshop session you will take a new product idea and explore it from the perspective of identifying and prioritising assumptions. We will also share some examples of where this has driven rapid delivery of MVPs as well as supporting avoidance of costly mistakes.
Please note that this event will be an interactive workshop.

This season see's the return of our #OrchardShoots Fantasy Premier League for the eighth year running.
We’re now accepting teams to battle it out in our famous #OrchardShoots league.
It's the usual format when it come's to choosing your squad for the new season, you have a budget of £100 million for your 15 chosen players or one Paul Pogba if you believe what the British papers are saying is the going rate.
If you’ve been involved before then you know the drill. Build your team, choose your colours and then come up with a terrible pun for your team name.
If you’ve never played, or don’t know anything about football then that’s OK! Simply sign-up and have your squad randomly filled with available players and maybe fluke your way to success.
To keep things official we've even got our own trophy and if you're victorious your name could be forever engraved on the plaque. It's 16 inches tall and a glistening symbol of victory for the winner. There's also a football shirt of your choice up for grabs if you can claim victory come the end of the season.
#OrchardShoots is the hashtag you'll need to get involved in on Twitter with our extremely competitive consulatants and other participants in the league.
Pick your squad wisely for the season and don't end up being one of those people who end up using their wildcard in the second week of the season.
Best of luck from everyone, well everyone except the super competitive ones, here at Orchard.
How to enter
Sign up at fantasy.premierleague.com, pick your squad, and then enter the #OrchardShoots league. We'll see you there!

As long as you haven't been living under a rock, you'll know that UEFA’s Euro 2016 tournament kicks off tonight.
We've taken a look at two separate studies which suggest that TV isn’t the only option for brands who are looking to engage with fans during the tournament.
Companies need to look past the obvious choices if they want to capitalise on the opportunities surrounding Euro 2016. They should be looking to target women as well as men across online, radio, print and mobile instead of just TV.
Kantar Media carried out a study into UK football fans and their study shown that there are 7.7 million female football fans in the UK, which is 33% of the UK’s 23.1 million football fans. No surprise that football is the UK’s most popular sport, followed by tennis, Formula One, rugby union and athletics.
Age wise, of the 1,000 consumers sampled in the UK, the largest proportion of people interested in football are aged 35-54 (48%), while 32% are 18-34 and just 20% are over the age of 55.
TV is the most popular way audiences consume football content, 93% of people interested in football choose TV as the way to watch in the UK. For brands to prosper when it comes to engagement with fans during the Euros, they should be looking for audiences beyond the TV fan base.
A massive amount of people, 76%, will also watch online and outside of TV and online, 62% of football fans will read about football in print media, 58% will listen on the radio, surprisingly only 51% will attend live games and 43% will interact via their mobile phones – this being a figure that will shoot up with the popularity of social media and sport apps.
Social media is absolutely massive for brands this summer, take for example this piece from Nandos, they've put together a Euros Starting Eleven made up of brilliant players puns using their menu. Great piece of free content that's very timely and fits in with Nandos typical content on Twitter.
Not everyone can produce such content and forced content by certain brands can do more harm than good but with all these different channels for people to follow the Euros, there is massive opportunity for brands to engage with a wide variety of people for the tournament.

After our first look at some of our favourite packaging projects, that included Dominos and Pepsi, we’ve decided to put together another collection of packaging pieces that have recently caught our eye.
The latest collection includes a one of a kind beer can and a beautiful collection of packaging for a confectionary shop that is located in Moscow.
First up we have British ice cream brand Jude’s who have recently gone through a full redesign of both it’s packaging and branding.
ASHA’s, the agency tasked with the redesign, have created a new logotype and fresh packaging to better reflect the premium quality that Jude’s Ice Cream offers.
There are fresh brand-new colour combinations across the whole range along with an ice cream kite mark on the front that is coupled with the words “Great British ice cream”.
Jude’s wanted their ice cream to stand out on the shelf, or more likely the freezers, and the new packaging certainly makes it stand out. The tough decision once you've spotted them is then picking which flavour you want to try.
For their 11th Anniversary, 1 Trick Pony created a custom beer with Taft’s Ale House. On further investigation it looks like this has become somewhat of a tradition for the agency each year as they send an “obsessively branded” bottle of alcohol to their clients – it’s even got it’s own name, “The Alcoholidays”.
The latest for this was a can of beer that was sent in a ‘1-Pack’ – this was a gold-foiled box that had a perforated opening on the top to resemble an old beer-can tab. The 1-Pack was designed with lavish art deco inspiration and it has a very luxurious and classy look to it.
Even with the luxurious feel to it, there are still a couple of fun quirks included on the pack, including a faux can top that encourages the recipients to “Have a good one.” The beer itself has similarities to the gift box and is shown in a subtle way.
The 1-Packs were distributed far and wide to the majority of 1 Trick Pony’s clients and it’s easy to see why many of their clients got back in touch for another after putting the first 1-Pack on display in their offices.
Some times there’s a product that is just too good to open and the 1-Pack is certainly one of them.
Nebosvod is a confectionary shop based in Moscow, we’re not expecting you to know of it but if you’ve ever been then we’re extremely jealous. They sell chocolate bars, pastries, cupcakes as well as coffee and tea to wash everything down.
The store recently had an overhaul of their branding and packaging, by PLENUM Brand Consultancy, and the finely drawn illustrations that adorn the packaging certainly make the desserts more desirable.
The new logo is delicate looking and the whole feel of Nebosvod is one of a very classy afternoon tea and the minimalist look of the packaging certainly helps to make their products appealing but at the same time memorable for the cakes and treats themselves.
