Manchester Futurists | Dan Hett: Dan++
21/11/2017 | AutoTrader, First Street, Manchester, M15 4FN
Dan became a (very, very slightly) augmented human, able to read and write a small amount of data wirelessly into his hand, and tell computers what to do by touching them.
In this talk, technology artist Dan Hett will explain why he made the decision to implant a foreign body permanently into his flesh, and how it actually works. He'll also be examining and unpicking a current body of artwork that's being created using the implanted chip as a core component, and will look at some of the responses from other technologists, those with religious beliefs, and most critically: his mum.
(Disclaimer: this talk is not for the squeamish, and will contain mildly graphic images of needles, flesh and blood!)
Dan is a BAFTA-winning creative technologist, and digital artist, currently working as one of the selected participants on FutureEverything's cutting-edge FAULT LINES program. He regularly speaks about his work - recently for the likes of FITC, Resonate, Reasons To Be Creative, BLAB and Test Card - and by night he regularly creates and performs live large-scale visuals at concerts, festivals and beyond. Dan's work has appeared in Computer Arts, the Guardian, BBC Click and a bunch of other places.
Doors open at 6:30pm, talk will begin promptly at 7pm.
