Tech for Trees: Urban space, urban greening
21/09/2017 | THE ROOF! 24 - 26 Lever Street, Manchester, M1 1DW
With Manchester growing so rapidly how do we create an appealing environment for everyone? And what control do we have over our own community spaces?
Talk to the organisers on #techforgoodlive @techforgoodlive
Our Fine Speakers:
Dr. Jens Thomas, co-founder of Farm Urban and a post-doctoral researcher in computational biology at the University of Liverpool. Farm Urban believe that the development and implementation of efficient, technologically-advanced urban farms are a key part of solving rising food and energy prices. They work alongside groups as diverse as schools, allotment owners, residents’ associations, hospitals and universities to develop programs and education around sustainable urban living.
Rebecca Taylor, social innovation design researcher and founding partner of The Curiosity Bureau, Becca is interested in the codesign of social space and started the project to create the rooftop space we're using for this event. She is also a trustee of the charity A New Leaf which is starting a series of its own events called 'The Nature of Manchester' which aims to try to understand the use of urban and green spaces in and around Manchester.
There'll also be space for brief "lightning" talks on the night, where anyone will have a chance to speak for up to 3 minutes on something that helps more people do good with tech.
As usual, there'll be beer and pizza from 6:30pm. See you there!
