What benefits are your employees really interested in?
From in-house yoga studios to early finishes on a Friday, there are uncountable employee benefits available across UK businesses in this day and age - but what perks are employees (or more specifically, prospective employees) actually looking for?
Every day we have new candidates through our doors, who all complete our anonymous recruitment survey. We asked our candidates to select their most valued employee perks that would attract them to a new role.
Amongst the popular perks are gym memberships; subsidised travel; dedicated breakout areas; and duvet days. For the previous 2 years, the top voted benefit was subsidised training - but 2017 showed a different result. Replacing subsidised training at the top spot was actually… pension schemes! 64% of candidates rated a good pension scheme as an important factor in a new role.
The previous top runner, subsidised training, has actually fallen down to 3rd place as ’social events’ was voted into second.
The full ranked list of perks for 2017 was as follows:
1. Pension scheme
2. Social events
3. Subsidised training AND Long service holidays (joint 3rd place)
4. Gym membership
5. Free car parking
6. Income protection AND duvet days (joint 6th place)
7. Subsidised travel
8. Subsidised lunches AND dedicated breakout areas (joint 8th place)
9. Counselling services
We then took to our good, reliable friend Google to see if our findings were echoed across the board, is a good pension scheme the most popular employee benefit?
A study from 'Jobsite' indicates the same findings - the pension scheme is the most popular perk. Out of 500 employees, 82% said pensions were an important part of their benefits package. You can read more about their findings in this article by People Management.
